At St George Early Learning Centre, we use a developmental based program founded on the Early Years Learning Framework, and National Quality Standards. We aim to provide stimulating and inviting experiences for each child. We believe that all children are active learners and our programs are designed to develop each child’s skills allowing them to achieve positive learning outcomes. The strengths, interests and learning goals of each child are catered for by our highly qualified and devoted team of educators through documenting observations on each child as they interact with the curriculum. These observations, combined with information shared by families will guide the program to provide experiences to cater for each child’s learning. Children will learn about their environment, community and discover themselves, as well as participate in fun social interactions with a balance of indoor and outdoor activities on a daily basis. Each program reflects experiences derived from observations and child initiated experiences, both planned and spontaneous relating to all areas of your child’s development.
We base our curriculum on the developmental skills of social, emotional, physical, spiritual, cognitive and language factors. Through ongoing planning and day to day experiences our educators incorporate these skills into each child’s learning through allowing problem solving, self-awareness and control, empathy, fine and gross motor skills, thinking, listening, communicating and self-control.
We understand that starting big school is a momentous change not only for the child but also for the family. We believe that this period is an exciting and also a challenging time that requires children to adjust to new environments, routines and expectations, so at St George we want to ensure we do all we can to help transition children from the pre-school environment into primary school with confidence. To ensure your child is ready to make that next big step into school, St George help to provide an all-inclusive school readiness program which focuses on key elements and outcomes guided by the Early Years Learning Framework. We believe that all children are active learners and our programs are designed to develop each child’s skills allowing them to achieve positive learning outcomes.
We strongly welcome, encourage and embrace each family’s feedback, and contribution, we respect all views regardless of gender, race, cultural background, religious beliefs and intellectual or physical ability. We gratefully work alongside our parents and carers, as partners, towards achieving individual goals for their children.
We provide Early Learning and Care to these groups:
Baby Kindies – 0 – 2 Years
Our baby room caters for children who are 6 weeks to 2 years old providing the highest quality care in a nurturing environment designed with the parent and child in mind. Whilst in our care, children are immersed with engaging activities as they learn through exploration and play.
Junior Kindies – 2 – 3 Years
Our Junior Kindies room caters for children who are 2 years to 3 years old. At this age, children are meeting new challenges and learn best in a stimulating environment. Our qualified Educators help facilitate learning and discovery through interest based activities which encourage investigation and exploration.
Developmental goals and objectives for children in the Junior Kindies room are supported by St George Early Learning Centre’s specially designed programs and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
Senior Kindies – 3 – 5 Years
It is our duty to assist a preschool child in transitioning to school through a variety of experiences. Whilst we do not ‘teach’ the skills as such, it is through our programs and the children’s natural curiosity and interests that we help children develop the skills in a positive and fun environment. The goal of our school readiness program is to:
- Successfully start school with confidence
- Develop the foundations for lifelong learning by developing skills and abilities which give children the ability to learn effectively
- Familiarise children with the school environment and associated routines, tasks, rules and expectations within that environment
The curriculum contains topics such as:
Social Studies: and the World around Them – we believe it is important that children develop an awareness of the people and places that make up our world.
Science and Technology: Experiences in this area include basic science experiments, and use of I-pads and educational apps to complement classroom experiences.
Creative Arts, Music and Language: This includes exploring different creative techniques and mediums, dancing and drama and developing children’s artistic curiosity
Numeracy and Literacy: Experiences that support this development include letter, shape and number recognition, our phonics program and the provision of our engaging writing spaces.
Physical Development and Health: Our flexible daily routine promotes physical activity and the development of fundamental movement skills enabling children to participate in group sports and physical games.
Social and Emotional Skills: Social and emotional elements are embedded in our curriculum including areas such as approaching children in a positive way, forming relationships, expressing emotions, collaborating on shared tasks and establishing communication skills.
St George partners with our local schools to help tailor our programs to support each individual child to transition smoothly. Families can expect a range of centre initiatives that build a child’s school readiness such as excursions to the local school and library and ‘lunch box’ days to build a child’s independent skills.
